In art today, we worked on a new project with warm and cool colours. We created our own cityscape with lots of detail, drew a circular sky, and then began colouring in each part with warm or cool colours. We also discussed our idea for the Christmas concert and assigned some parts. We are looking forward to beginning practice. In science class today, we discussed weather patterns in cities that were near the water versus cities that were on the water. The textbook gave the examples of Prince Rupert and Kamloops. Ms. Wright had an immediate connection. Her hometown, Terrace, is right beside Prince Rupert and Kamloops was where Ms. Wright graduated from university. We compared Prince Rupert to Busan and Kamloops to Daegu in terms of their average precipitation levels and temperatures.
In social studies, we went down to the auditorium to watch a short clip about how Aboriginal people first arrived in North America. Today, we had our very first Caribou Math Contest. After a long time at the computer, we went down to the basement gym for some much needed daily physical activity. In the afternoon we continued to learn about climates in Science and the Stolo people in Social Studies.

A picture of Ms. Wright's grandfather and his brother during WWII. November 11 is a national holiday in Canada called Remembrance Day. It is a day where we remember those who have served and do serve in the war. We watched "A Pittance of Time" today to remind ourselves why it is important to take 1 or 2 minutes of our time to honour those who serve. HOMEWORK
ELA: Part 1 Summary and Connection sheet (Due Friday, November 14th) Reading Log SS: Stolo vs. Settlers Journal REMINDER Caribou Math Challenge Tomorrow at 10:30 AM Today was the first day of implementing our yellow card system for speaking Korean school. The idea is that students will speak less Korean if they know that there is a consequence for their actions. The staff hopes this will solve the problem of too many students speaking Korean in school. We started a new reading assignment in class, a book summary. Students are required to pick a book at their level, break it into three equal parts, and write a summary for each part. This assignment will be due on Wednesday, November 19th (depending on students level of work in class). There will be time given in class to work on this assignment but it will be expected that students work on this at home as well. Tomorrow we will have a guest joining the class to give CBIS a trial run. She will be joining us all day and participating in all activities. We look forward to welcoming her. HOMEWORK ELA: Chapter Book Summaries SS: North American First Nations Tonight was the first round of student led conferences. It was so nice to meet all of the parents and get know more about my lovely students. I am SO proud of how well everyone did introducing their portfolios to their parents. I may be a bit biased, but I truly think I have the best class in the world :)
I want to take the time to thank each and every student from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for working hard in class (even when the material might not be too exciting), thank you for understanding when things do not go perfectly, thank you for telling me when you do not understand and letting me help you, thank you for trying even when things are difficult, thank you for helping your classmates, thank you for making me laugh, thank you for telling me about your weekends, thank you for giving me hugs and making me smile, and most importantly, thank you for being YOU. You all bring me so much joy. YOU are the reason I teach! Enjoy your long weekend. Love, Ms. Wright HOMEWORK ELA: Reading Log Math- Unit 3 pg 116 #14-15 Word problem worksheet In the morning, our class went to the library to select books that were "just right" for us. During Math, we reviewed the strategies we learned so far for multiplying and dividing. We found out we knew a lot more than we thought! During Social Studies, we learned more about aboriginal people in Canada and how they used natural resources. Ms. Wright was really impressed with how much the students already knew about natural resources and why it is important to take care of them. HOMEWORK ELA: Reading Log Math: Unit 3-Show What You Know pg 116 #1-13 REMINDER Student led conferences start tomorrow after school
On Thursday evening and Friday morning, we will be having student led conferences. This will be a chance for students to show parents some of the work they have done so far. We are working hard this week to get our portfolios together. Please sign up for three times that work for you on these days. If you need an English translator for the meetings, please email me or write this on the form and return tomorrow. HOMEWORK ELA: Reading Log REMINDER Interm Reports signed and returned |
