It seems like November is birthday month! Happy Birthday to Catherine :) In P.E. we spent some time practicing for the Christmas performance. We practiced telling the time with a memory game today in Math. In Social Studies, we went to the computer lab to type out our research paragraphs on the Copper Inuit. Yesterday I forgot to mention that we celebrated Rose Bae's birthday in class. Today we had to say good-bye to our friend and classmate Albert as he moves to another school. We will miss you! See you later Albert :)
In Science, we went to the computer lab to find out more information about erosion from our Nelson Literacy books. HOMEWORK ELA: Reading Log REMINDER The first missing/late homework forms went home today. If you received one, please make sure your child fills it out. Today in class, we discussed the new missing or late homework policy. Students have not been taking responsibility for their work which has resulted in too many late, missing or unfinished assignments. To try and solve this problem, Ms. Wright has come up with a new plan.
The new policy is as follows:

The inspectors will be at CBIS tomorrow and Wednesday. We look forward to their visit. Today we had our first run through of the "12 Days of Fitness". Students worked hard to keep time, stay on pitch and use expression in their voice. We also practiced some of our super secret moves. We are getting really excited about performing and we had a lot of good ideas about what we should wear. Parents will have to wait until the performance on December 8th to find out! HOMEWORK ELA: How I Live Journal Reading Log One and Only Ivan Memorable Part SCI: How to... Writing
Today we started our brand new reading logs. These reading logs will require students to not only read but also to respond to their readings. On each day, students will record the time they read, as usual. However after they have finished, students will need to choose one of following strategies to respond: summarize, predict, evaluate, question, connect or visualize. For example, after reading The One and Only Ivan today, students could write: "I predict that Ruby will go to a zoo but Ivan will have to stay in the big top mall with Bob." If you have any questions about these logs, please let me know! HOMEWORK ELA: Part 2 Summary (due tomorrow) Reading Log HACE: Food Log SCI: Seasons Journal |
