We had a lot of fun on our field trip today. We each got to make a mug using clay. We learned many good techniques for working with clay and we had a good time. In the morning, we signed out library books, had P.E. with Mr. Ashton and learned some new multiplication strategies.

Today's Science class was a busy one. We worked between recess and lunch in the library creating our own food webs. We started off my researching one predator. We found out what that predator ate and it's prey. Then we connected them together until we got down to the producers. We learned some new techniques using Google Docs as well for saving pictures. On Friday, we will be putting together our pictures and food webs into one poster.
Tomorrow is our Art field trip in the afternoon and we are really looking forward to it. We also have our Achasan trip on Thursday (postponed from last Thursday). Reminder that students will not need to pack their own lunch but will need to bring a snack. HOMEWORK Language Arts 1. Reading Log (journal) 30 minutes 2. Journal -Spelling Sentences (all) This morning we worked very hard on writing our good copies of our acrostic poems for Social Studies about Contact and Change in Canada. We also talked about Food Webs in Science and how each organism in the web is very important. During Weekly News, we shared with our classmates about our weekends.

For homework, please practice singing and doing the actions with this video. Remember what we talked about during the feedback session and let's keep up the fantastic progress! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvUWiW5PJ5I&index=18&list=PL_-ILlr1kEqk2PLoF8svWxChn3ouhbZtA " Unfortunately due to very high levels of dust and bad air quality, we had to postpone our Achasan field trip till next week. Even though we were sad about not going to Achasan, we still had a very good work day filled with fun activities. We did some yoga in the morning, read Chapter 7 of Howliday Inn, and wrote a letter to the main character giving some advice. Right before lunch, we finished watching Frozen Planet and did some creative drawing.
After lunch, Grade 4's went to Ms. Hwu's room to practice their song for Music class. Then we were able to go to the library for Genius Hour and research our topics. Finally, we finished the day with some physical activity in the mini gym and games to cheer us up! Even though we couldn't go to Achasan, we still had a great time. HOMEWORK Language Arts 1. Reading Log (journal) 30 minutes 2. Journal - My Genius Hour Project (min. 6 sentences) In Social Studies this morning, we started a new project: acrostic poems. Groups got together to discuss a key word: aboriginal, technology, Europeans, or Fur Trade. In their groups, they brainstormed as much information as the could about these topics. On Friday, we will be writing our rough copies of our poem and next week we will type up our poems to display to the rest of CBIS. In Science, we discussed the different types of producers and consumers. Then we watched a short video on the Arctic and Antarctic while looking for examples of each. We saw some pretty interesting consumers and some really cute ones too!
Tomorrow is our hike to Achasan so please don't forget to come prepared for the hike. Students can bring their phones or cameras but they will be fully responsible for their damage or loss. HOMEWORK Language Arts 1. Reading Log (journal) 30 minutes 2. Journal - Unusual Day (min. 8 sentences) Achasan Field Trip tomorrow! During first block, we learned about food chains. Starting with sun, energy is passed along to producers, that energy is transferred to a primary consumer, then along to a secondary consumer, a tertiary consumer and finally to a top predator. We went the library and played some of these games to solidify our learning. After break, we talked about all the things we have learned so far in Social studies with a review, specifically technology, First Nations, Europeans and the Fur Trade.

In the morning, we finished making our Math graphs in our groups as well as creating questions to go along with them. After that, we read Chapter 5 of Howliday Inn where we found out that Louise had disappeared! We read with our buddies before lunch, learned how to show our voice in writing, and did a Science quiz all before snack. Some people did not study over the weekend so they have to redo their Science quiz Wednesday at lunch. During last block, we planned out a healthy meal that we are going to eat during our hike on Thursday at Achasan. Students were coming up with great balanced meals. Looking forward to seeing them on Thursday.

We were able to visit Ms. D'Souza's classroom today to see the hard work the Grade 7 class have put into their projects about the Roman Empire. We saw aqueducts, colosseums, fashion, warfare, and even a model of Pompei! It was clear that the Grade 7's know a lot about the Roman Empire and that they have a fantastic teacher. In the afternoon, we started a new Genius Hour for our ACA time.

Centres everywhere! Today was a fun day in class as we combined a lot of subjects into one great morning. Ms. Wright created some Science themed centres. Centre 1 was Science: Building A Creature. Students used a website called "Build Your Wild Self" to make fun avatars. In Centre 2, students wrote a story about the creature they created in centre 1. Centre 3 was a scavenger hunt! Students raced around the school to find clues to a crossword with our Science vocabulary. Centre 4 was a Social Studies station where students labelled a map of Canada and found the animals that went there. Finally, Centre 5 was a relaxing reading station where students read Magic School Bus while searching for unknown words. It was a fun morning!
